Thank you to our sponsor
9/3/08
Thank you to everyone who participated in the July and August Glass Challenge. Glass Alchemy was proud to sponsor this challenge and is impressed by the entries we have received. We challenged you to show us how you can control silver colors and you responded with very impressive entries. As a result, we decided to award one first prize winner in the professional category and two first prize winners in the hobbyist category – one for the use of a single color, and one for the use of multiple colors. All the entries were excellent and made the judging process very difficult in both categories.
Thanks again to all who submitted. We are honored to announce the following winners:
Hobbyist Category:
Congratulations Sleekbeads! Your piece was simple in design, but does a wonderful job demonstrating the wide range of colors from Havana Moon Lite, 5813, as well as your ability to control flame atmosphere. You produced beautiful lusters on the surface and maintained a metallic sheen, while not over reducing the color.
Congratulation Helen Starkweather! You used Jamboree, 8989, Dragon’s Eye, 4838 and Havana Moon Lite, 5813 with great skill in your work. Your crab demonstrated your ability to produce the intended color and you maintained the color at the joints, which shows great control.
Professional Category:
Congratulations Jill Elkins! Your turtle showed clear intentionality in the controlled application of Dragon’s Eye, 4838. This entry took home the prize because of the controlled purposeful reduction of the shell and the whips of red in the appendages. This turtle shows a wide range of the color ability and the artist knowledge of application.
